Our Place

A few little things at our place::

A while back I posted about a bed that I wanted to get. Well here it is! We’ve had it a few months now and it’s been great for having extra storage under, not to mention that it’s pretty and white!

I ‘springed’ it up with these yellow pillow cases I got at a recent rummage sale for 0.50 cents each!

I also made this pretty white pillow from a remnant I got as well!

Another pretty little thing I managed to scavenge is this antique window. Last week a very old house across the road from us started to be demolished. After an early morning jog I waved one of the crew men over and asked if he could salvage a window for me! He was so nice and told me to get it after work.

Weekend Project Complete

This embroidery hoop project was on my list to do before the end of May.
It was fun pulling out fabric and finding other fun ways to customize the hoops and make them each unique yet all coordinate together.

I hot glued each piece of fabric to the inside of the hoop.

I made this organza flower with pearls a while back, it matched perfectly.

One project down, three to go.

What did you do this weekend?

We had a lovely time with family celebrating and remembering the death and life of Jesus and the grace we have been granted through His sacrifice.

I picked up some pretty flowers I had to share as well.

Post Christmas Decor

I need some help!! I’ve had this set of three frames hung on the wall for a while now and don’t know what type of image or medium to put in the tri-frame. Any ideas?
The two floral prints are from a book I purchased a while back while browsing an antique barn in St. Jacob’s.

And I just snapped a few pictures of some post Christmas decorating with two new birdie items I received. It’s my weakness.

Wall Art Collage

I’ve been dying to get something up on our bedroom wall as it had this unsettled feeling, like we weren’t totally moved in or waiting to move out. There is something about having pictures hung that make a room feel more complete, more personal. And that is what I was going for with this wall collage. Two pieces have more of a significant meaning to me and the husband and I hope to add pieces to it as I hunt and collect more frames.
I was really unsure how to go about putting it together so I found this great post here that helped me out. This was an example that I used.

I traced each frame on a piece of craft paper so I could find the best configuration for the space on the wall.

Option 3

We went with option three. I know that I want to add more frames and the other two options didn’t seem to leave a nice space for any later additions. And I just like this configuration the best.

I purchased these white square Ribba frames from Ikea a few years ago.
A great cheap way find nice 'art' is to look in a card store.
I picked up some pretty square cards for about $5.00 each and popped
them into the frames.

For this one specific frame I changed the matting around it with patterned
scrapbook paper. The card inside is what I gave my son-to-be-husband
on our wedding day. I like how there are hidden words locked inside!

This lovely "birds on a wire" original painting was given to me on our engagement.
BFF had a former summer student of his paint it just for me.
I love it and its special meaning.

This is a cool vintage radio that BFF salvaged from the roadside.
It actually has a really cool sound.
I picked up this pretty glass antique lamp from V.V for $8.00 a while back.
All it needed was a new shade.

Our Own Apartment Therapy {1}

Living in an apartment building has its limitations in terms of a) the amount of decorating one wants to put into a place that is not 'theirs' and b) the amount of decorating one is allowed to do.

Knowing that we will be living here for a maximum of 2-3 years, which is a decent amount of time, I want to make our home feel like a home, that it is ours with a cozy and unique style. We are still trying to figure our space issues and where things should go without looking totally cluttered and messy. This is a difficult task seeing as BFF likes books and techy gadgets, I have my crafts and such and Tayson has his toys. Easy enough to keep the kids stuff in his room. Harder to sort out our 'toys.'

Such will be the task over the next while. Coming up with creative and versatile storage solutions that still have a decorative appeal and, finding low cost or DIY decorating projects to make our apartment a home.

Here are some things I'm keeping an eye on:

I just saw this in the Giant Tigar flyer, a faux leather storage bench for $89.00. It serves two important functions 1) storing stuff without being an eyesore 2) seating! It's great to have a little extra place to sit when there are a few spare people around.
I'm wanting to put a drum pendent light in our living room to define the space. I saw this DIY project on the Thifty Decor Chick blog. She has a step by step on how to make one. Maybe I can score a shade at the thrift store and cover it in a fun fabric.

We need to hang some art or photos! I've always wanted to try a wall collage. Something fun like this from Young House Love.
There is also something exciting coming to our apartment very soon courtesy of my hard working parents! It's actually two things, both white and county and beautiful! Keep your eyes out for that exciting post!

David's Dinner Party

I had been planning for two weeks a special celebration for my sweeties birthday. After a week of viewing outdoor party ideas, I gathered my creative energy and spent all day Saturday preparing for his surprise. Here is the result! I had a lot of fun with all the details, adding my little touches here and there. Enjoy!

A chalk message on the driveway.

I just LOVE flowers.
So of course I couldn't resist indulging to make things look pretty.

The Bouquet I made David.

I strung pictures and made a memory wall.
Using drapery from my old apartment, I made a grand entrance.

Roasted Maple Salmon with grilled asparagus with
a side of wedge potatoes.
I surprised myself considering I DO NOT like cooking.

{I heart you}

Looked so pretty in the evening.
We played the good ol' game of tile rummy.

Birdie Bath {room}

I don't know exactly where my recent affection for birds came from, but as of late I LIKE THEM. I like them a lot! [insert David rolling his eyes] I picked up these two cute little prints when we went to Elora a few months back. Perfect on the ikea shelf above the 'throne' which I kept out of the picture.

At the same store there was also this too-adorable-to-leave-behind door knocker! It's for my house to be one day. But maybe I can find a place for him to nest till then. Then what did my eyes spy while on a recent visit of HomeSense? An adorable birdie bath perfect for jewelery or keys. (if relocated) And this delightful square serving plate, adorned with what else, but another little tweeter!

Don't worry David, I won't go Alfred Hitchcock on you! (I just had to add the most hilarious/bazaar barbie doll I've seen featuring a movie character!! Marcella, have you collected this one yet?) see below

What are some things that you enjoy collecting and decorating with?
